Aquatic Toxicity:  Cosmetic Ingredient Applicability of the OECD TG 249: RTGill-W1 Fish Cell Line Acute Toxicity Assay

Objective

  1. Identify most relevant gaps in the available data for chemicals tested against the gill cytotoxicity assay
  2. Generate high-quality OECD TG 249 data for cosmetic ingredients to evaluate strength in predicting acute fish toxicity.
  3. Identify potential chemical-specific limitations of the OECD TG 249 that may be difficult for ensuring robust environmental risk and hazard assessments and obtaining global regulatory acceptance
  4. Externally communicate findings (e.g., publication, conferences) of the work to support scientific confidence in the method and advance regulatory acceptance
